WE'RE NOW CLOSED. THANK YOU FOR ALL OF YOUR SUPPORT THROUGHOUT THE YEARS.

Soïzic Chevalier never wore a lot of jewelry before launching In Cauda Venenum. Simply because she never found a brand that matched her style. So she decided to try her hand at creating her own. Sharing a glimpse of her creations with her circle, she knew she was onto something. And just shy of two years later… ICV has already become a regular feature in Vogue and showed at New York and Paris fashion weeks.

For Soïzic, inspiration is everywhere. Art, graphics, nature, animals, tattoo ornaments, vintage jewelry and art deco pieces. Sometimes even clothes she’s wearing that day will bring about a new style of necklace or bracelet that would go perfectly with it. In Cauda Venenum’s varied aesthetic is Soïzic’s homage to the kaleidoscope of her influences and experiences. And whether you’re partial to delicate or statement styles, it’s almost guaranteed you’ll find a creation to feast your eyes and feed your soul.

the interview

What’s your typical day ‘at the office?’

Actually each day is different, I usually reply to my emails and do administrative stuff in the morning, check with my gilder and other suppliers, and also take pictures and prepare posts for social media. Then I start making and shipping the orders I have to fulfill. I often have inspiration during the evening (don’t ask why I don’t know myself lol), so I often work on new ideas of designs at this time.

What was the first piece of jewelry created under the In Cauda Venenum brand? And how have your designs evolved since its launch in 2019?

The first piece was the Vega bracelet, and it’s still a part of my collection! I think my collection is a little more homogeneous now, all models can be layered and worn with each other. I initially created pieces that I liked but I didn't wear them or very little in the end. Although they were also popular to my customers, I decided to stop making them because I want each piece to really have its place within my collection.

If you were to pick a personal favorite, which In Cauda Venenum piece would it be?

Most certainly a swan-headed cuff that was designed in collaboration with the artist Caroline Karenine, who also tattooed almost half of my body. It’s an ode to Annecy and its lake, famous for its swans, where the jewelry is made. But I have several personal favorites, Freya, Solyme, Bala, Andromaque… it’s hard to pick just one!

Who would you love to wear your pieces?

I guess it would be very flattering to see a celebrity wearing my designs. I’m already very happy when I see my customers wearing their pieces.

What’s one cause you want people to rally behind?

I don't specifically want people to rally to this cause, but I do think we can try to consume better by choosing the stores, brands we buy from and the origin of the products we buy. Purchase goods that are ethically made, or local or handcrafted. Prefer to support small businesses with a real identity rather than multinational companies.
